Key application dates
The central deadlines that decide whether your application counts, from OUAC (Ontario's application centre). Each block links to the official dates page — deadlines reset every cycle, so confirm there before relying on any date here.
Undergrad from high school (OUAC 101)
- August OUAC posts the new cycle's application and updated OUInfo data — exact dates for the next cycle appear here
- Sept–Oct Ontario Universities' Fair and regional fairs (free; worth attending in Grade 11 or 12)
- Mid-January Equal-consideration deadline: apply by this date and every Ontario university guarantees full review (it was January 15 in the fall 2026 cycle). Later applications still process, but university-specific deadlines take over
- Late May Latest date for a response — offer, refusal or deferral — if you applied by the January deadline (May 28 in the fall 2026 cycle)
- June 1 Earliest date a university can require you to accept an offer or pay a deposit
Medicine (OMSAS) — 2027 entry cycle
- Aug 22, 2026 Deadline for the AFMC application-fee waiver program
- Sep 15, 2026 Recommended date to send reference requests to your referees
- Oct 1, 2026 4:30 pm ET: application, transcripts, references and payment all due. Strict — no exceptions
- Oct 21, 2026 MCAT scores must reach OMSAS (request release from AAMC by Oct 15)
- May 11, 2027 First-round offers of admission sent
- Jun 30, 2027 Final transcripts due
Physio & rehab sciences (ORPAS)
- Fall Application opens for the following fall's entry
- Early January Application and reference deadline (January 6 in the fall 2026 cycle)
- Late January Initial transcripts due (January 30 in the fall 2026 cycle)
- Mid-May Earliest OT and PT offers (May 15 in the fall 2026 cycle)

What grade are you in?

Grade 9: keep every door open
No university looks at Grade 9 marks. Your only job is to stay on the course track that leads to Grade 12 U-level courses.
Take this year
- ENG1D English, which starts the chain to ENG4U (required everywhere)
- MTH1W Math (de-streamed), which starts the chain to Grade 12 math and calculus
- SNC1W Science, which starts the chain to Grade 12 Biology, Chemistry and Physics
One habit that pays off later
- Pick at least one arts or humanities course you actually like. McMaster Health Sci requires a non-math, non-science Grade 12 course, and it's easier if you've stayed in the habit.
Grade 10: the chain continues
These three academic courses are the prerequisites for the Grade 11 courses that matter. Dropping to applied level here closes the U-level path.
Take this year
- ENG2D English (academic) → leads to ENG3U → ENG4U
- MPM2D Principles of Mathematics (academic) → leads to MCR3U → MHF4U / MCV4U / MDM4U
- SNC2D Science (academic) → the single gateway to Grade 11 Biology, Chemistry AND Physics
Grade 11: set up your Grade 12 options
Universities mostly look at Grade 12 marks, but every Grade 12 course has a Grade 11 prerequisite. What you pick now determines what you can pick next year.
To keep every flagship health program open next year, take:
- ENG3U English → unlocks ENG4U (required by every program)
- SBI3U Biology → unlocks SBI4U (required at McMaster, Western, Queen's and Waterloo Health Sci)
- SCH3U Chemistry → unlocks SCH4U (required at McMaster, Western Med Sci, Queen's and Waterloo Health Sci)
- MCR3U Functions → unlocks ALL Grade 12 math, including Calculus
- SPH3U Physics (optional) → unlocks SPH4U, recommended at Western Med Sci
The trap to avoid
- Skipping MCR3U (Functions) means no Calculus next year, which closes Western Medical Sciences, U of T Life Sciences and Waterloo Life Sciences for direct entry. It's the most door-closing single decision in high school. Tap through to the Grade 12 checker to see it live.
Grade 12: check your plan

University: pick a professional path
Each field is applied to during or after your undergraduate degree, and the required courses differ sharply between them. Pick a field to see every program with its full prerequisite course list.
Ontario undergrad programs for pre-med
There is no such thing as a "pre-med major" in Canada. Medical schools accept almost any degree, as long as your grades are strong and you finish their prerequisite courses. These are the science and health degrees Ontario students most often choose. Pick whichever you would enjoy and do well in, since your GPA matters far more than the program name.
Canadian medical schools
All 18 faculties of medicine, from the official AFMC 2026 Admissions Requirements Guide. Filter by province, then read each school's GPA, MCAT, CASPer and course prerequisites. Most seats are reserved for in-province residents, so your home province matters.
Check your courses against prerequisites
Tap the university courses you have taken (or plan to). Most Canadian med schools list no required courses, so any degree works for them. A few do require specific courses, and this shows whether yours cover them. Important: covering the courses is not the same as being admitted. Your GPA, MCAT and CASPer decide that.
